Piercing Bumps

Piercing Bumps

More than likely that bump that has popped up on your piercing is not a keloid or an infection.  These are what the piercing world knows as “piercing bumps“. These occur from the piercing being irritated.

Common “triggers” for irritations

  • Touching your piercing or jewelry.
  • Not getting your jewelry downsized on time!
  • Low quality jewelry and improper sizes.
  • Twisting/turning your jewelry.
  • Picking off “crust” with your fingernails.
  • Sleeping on your piercing
  • Using headphones.
  • Improper aftercare (using alcohol, Bactine, etc).
  • Wearing makeup on/to close to your piercing.
  • Using q tips on it.

These bumps will go away on their own once the source of irritation is gone. Pay attention to what you do to the piercing and how you’re taking care of it. If you’re doing one of the irritating things above stopping it will help the bump go away.

Do not use tea tree oil, aspirin paste, or any other kind of substance on the piercing to ge rid of the bump. Hot towel compresses, as mentioned in the microdermal aftercare below, and eliminating sources of irritation will rid of the bump.
