This all depends on the kind of piercing in question. Some piercings call for straight studs to heal in, some call for rings, and some call for curved barbells. At your appointment/experience here we will by default always start with what is the recommended and most conducive to healing.

Why? Regardless of how good the piercing is, how high quality the jewelry is, etc. starting off a piercing on the “wrong foot” with a style that is not conducive to it healing will inevitably make healing an uphill battle.

We do support the idea of “informed consent” meaning that if our clients choose to get pierced with a piece, we don’t recommend starting with we will likely find a safe way to do so, but only after we explain our recommendations/hesitations with said piece. We do recommend coming in with a “final goal” and allotting some flexibility, things that factor in are, your individual anatomy, piercing healing tendencies (if said piercing does best initially with x gauge, or a stud instead of a ring), etc.

We abide by the standards set forth by the Association of Professional Piercers- we only use and stock the best implant grade, smooth, interally threaded jewelry. Materials vary from titanium to steel to gold (ex; it’s not just titanium jewelry, its specifically implant grade titanium that is proven to be biocompatible and safe IN the body).

We use threaded jewelry that screws in or threadless, that pulls apart and snaps together. Both are internal- meaning that the shafts are smooth and the tops/ends have the securing pieces. Externally threaded jewelry has a screw pattern on the shaft that scratches the piercing channel when inserted and removed along with being not as clean since the threads cannot be properly cleaned. We never use externally threaded jewelry.

We do indeed! We ask all clients interested in this service to fill out our custom order form. You can upload inspiration photos of specific jewelry to our email (tacomasbestpiercing@gmail.com). Our Operations Supervisor will then look for similar pieces from the jewelry manufacturers we order from. Once they find the right piece(s), they’ll send a price quote to the client. The client is expected to pay half of the jewelry cost before we order it, and then pay the other half when the jewelry is delivered. The client then has 60 days to pick up their jewelry before they forfeit their right to the jewelry and we keep their deposit.

All of our jewelry (minus our glass retainers and plugs) has a lifetime warranty! This means that if a stone falls out of its setting, a pin on a threadless top snaps off, or if the jewelry is marred, we can ship it back to the manufacturer to have it replaced for free. We can only do this if we have the jewelry in front of us, however, so this warranty does not apply to lost jewelry.
